The smoky skies have prevented us from playing outdoors these past few weeks so we're trying to keep amused inside. We thought we should review our pivot work! Here you can see how we use Fiji's pivot training to transition into a nice side step. Yodel, of course, just loves to pivot in either direction! Both are getting much better at remaining on the boundary while the other works. This is day 2. I've shown just two repetitions. I wasn't paying close enough attention to our position in relation to the camera so the footage isn't great. As you can see, I've switched from kneeling to standing.
Here are some snippets of our training sessions from day 1 after we had done our base line. It's a good thing I've started to video our Rally training because I am not training clean! He is getting faster and is thrilled with the high value reward (cheese). What I didn't realize until I watched the video was that he was releasing from the down before I gave the command at least 50% of the time. I'll have to deliberately pause, make sure he is still in the down and then say my release word. Poor Yodel. He really needs a better trainer! Fiji is being a really good girl and staying on her bed while we work.
This is Yodel's moving down on day 1. I'm deliberately using a verbal only; I don't want to have to rely on a hand signal for this behavior. He does the behavior but is a bit slow. I would like to make this a faster, happier moving down.
This is Fiji's moving down base line. I'm satisfied with this and will just maintain.
